We hear and tell ourselves lies often—especially in the age of social media. Now more than ever, we’re told health “facts” that may in fact be total LIES. Here is a MAJOR one for WOMEN:
Training fasted burns fat.
When we wake in the morning, our cortisol spikes. By training fasted we tell our brain and thus our bodies that we are in an energy deficit, resulting in increased cortisol, the breakdown of muscle tissue and over time, increased fat storage. When our body perceives that we are in a deficit, the brain’s kisspeptin neurons (which are more dense in women), that are hypersensitive to caloric intake and stress, disrupt the endocrine (hormone) system: resulting in a drop in our thyroid function and irregular pulses in our everyday hormones (think: estrogen). Furthermore, fasted training negatively impacts the hypothalamus which plays a critical role in healthy hormone production and cortisol release. You may find that when you regularly train fasted you enter a state of restless fatigue: you are exhausted but simultaneously wired—blame heightened CORTISOL and suppressed female hormones (like estrogen). This can disrupt sleep, strength gains, fat loss, energy levels and MORE.

All it takes as a preworkout meal is something small—like a banana and a protein shake! 30g of carbohydrate and 10-15 grams of protein is ideal. This small snack tells your body you’re not stressed, lowers cortisol and actually improves your metabolism post-workout.
My go-to protein powder is Legion Plant + protein. Every day, I mix it into my oatmeal—it gives me a 25 gram boost of protein for the day! It also comes in a variety of delicious flavors: French Vanilla, Mocha Cappuccino (my personal favorite), Cinnamon Cereal, Apple Pie and MORE! It also comes in whey, casein, egg-white and clear varieties. I also recommend creatine daily. You can get BOGO 50% OFF Legion Supplements (including creatine) code “knight” HERE.
