Mental Fortitude: Why it Matters

Mental toughness. Let’s talk about that…

Something I believe absolutely crucial for every generation—and something that’s played an integral role throughout history is mental fortitude. “The strong shall survive” or “survival of the fittest” speaks to strength playing a primary role in who succeeds—but strength isn’t only physical, it’s mental. And mental toughness, in my opinion, is king. It’s one thing to be physically fit, physically strong, physically talented—it’s an entirely different thing to be mentally resilient, infallible and brave. At the end of the day, your mental strength and “toughness” is what’s going to determine whether or not you succeed, accomplish your goals, come out on top, surpass your demons, endure periods of doubt and failure and even how you see yourself. Mental strength is key.

I practice mental fortitude every day. I practice it in my workouts every morning—through challenges and new routines—and even more importantly, I practice it in the rest of my life. I work on it in my work life, social life, faith, personal assumptions, biases, personal demons, fears, etc. Working on your mental strength is invaluable and something I encourage absolutely everyone to do! Don’t take the easy way out—push through! Challenge yourself and don’t give up.

When we become mentally strong, nothing is off-limits. Every action we take follows.

If you do anything today for your future self: mentally challenge yourself. Work on your mental fortitude.
