Should You Run Through Pain? Or am I Injured?

How to know if it’s a true injury or something you can run through?

This is a tricky situation, undoubtably. Is it an injury or is it just a nagging pain? Even something like runner’s knee can be be run through at times…but a stress reaction? No way!

The truth is: it’s complex.

If the pain is present when you walk, sit, relax or go about your day, running more than likely isn’t wise…but not in every sitatuation. For example, if you have a deep pain in your leg that’s always persistent, your initial thought is: why would you try running on it? Odds are it’s something that needs true diagnosis and needs time to recuperate. However, in the odds that it’s something like an arthritis flare-up, running through it isn’t always impossible or going to lead to greater issues.

So, the first question to ask yourself is: how bad is this pain (very minimal or anything more than minimal)?

First ACTION to take is: see a doctor. Whether or not you want to, seeing a doctor will help you decipher if this is something that’ll sideline you or that you can work through. Without seeing a doctor, you’ll never know what’s truly going on and trying to self-diagnose on the internet is a recipe for DISASTER!

If you fell in a recreational soccer game last night and have a new bruise that you aren’t worried about, you’re more than likely okay. But if the pain is deeper and persistent, go see a doctor. That bruise could be telling of something deeper going on.

Remember: pain isn’t typically normal. If something is nagging, get it checked!
